ArboReal

Bettina Neuhaus

ArboReal investigates the vibrant field of communication and action that can emerge from within our relationship with nature and in particular with trees.

The practice looks at ways of engaging in an embodied and felt awareness of ecology. ArboReal aims to facilitate the experience and (re)discovery of our own inherent belonging within the natural world. It investigates how through acknowledging our relationality and interdependency with all co-existing forms of life might reveal new insights and possibilities for action.

The first part was an individual research done by Bettina with larches and cembra pines at the edge of the forest in the Swiss mountains of the Grison canton in August 2020. This was followed by a research lab with a small group of professional dancers and anthropologists at the Amsterdamse Bos in Amsterdam in Sept 2020.

The research resulted in the creation of ‘4 Tree Scores for a Woodland Walk’ which is available to download from this page.

ArboReal was commissioned, produced and mentored by Vanessa Grasse

as part of The Land We Are and supported by the Arts Council England.
